Measurement notes
- All linear boot and tailgate opening dimensions verified from annotated ADAC Autotest AT6491 photographs (Ford Explorer EV Extended Range 79 kWh Premium AWD, June 2025, pp. 4-5).
- Interior boot height is 620 mm to the flexible parcel shelf and 790 mm to the roof with the variable load floor in its lowest position (130 mm internal step to sill; 30 mm step in upper floor position, which separates 105 l below the floor plus a 5 l recess).
- Open tailgate clearance height is 1885 mm above the road. Exterior dimensions: 4468 x 1871 x 1639 mm (2075 mm width including mirrors).
What the numbers mean for loading
- The documented opening width (87 cm) is 14 cm narrower than the width between the wheel arches (101 cm), so the opening limits wide items first.
- The documented opening height (62 cm) is lower than the documented cargo height (79 cm): an item that fits inside may not pass through the opening upright.
- Folding the rear seats increases the documented floor length from 82.5 cm to 164 cm (measurement points as described by the source).
- The documented load sill height is 76 cm — heavy items have to be lifted at least this high.
- The documented maximum payload is 561 kg (p. 16, Herstellerangaben — Leergewicht/Zuladung: 2.179/561 kg (Extended Range 79 kWh Premium AWD; ADAC measured 582 kg)).
- Manufacturers measure at specific points that may differ from where your item sits; trims, options (such as a spare wheel or raised floor) and model updates can change the figures.

Advanced: tapers and sloping tailgates
If the opening is narrower at the top, or the height is lower near a sloping tailgate, enter the smaller figures here. The conservative check uses the smaller of each pair.

Buying from IKEA? Use the article number
IKEA does not offer a public product-data API we can use, so we don't fetch or guess package sizes. Enter the article number to open the official IKEA product search, then copy the package dimensions from the product page (“Product details → Measurements / Packaging”) into the packages below — one row per package.
How to verify these figures on your car
Before collecting something large, measure your own car — it takes two minutes. Measure the opening width at its narrowest point, the opening height from the top of the loading lip, and the width between the wheel arches.
