Will a TV fit in my car?
A TV box is much larger than the screen, and TVs are usually best kept upright. Enter the box dimensions from the carton or listing — the screen size alone can’t tell us the box size.

Car not listed or different generation? — it takes about two minutes.

Advanced: tapers and sloping tailgates
If the opening is narrower at the top, or the height is lower near a sloping tailgate, enter the smaller figures here. The conservative check uses the smaller of each pair.

Your TV box
Enter the screen size to see the minimum panel size. The box is always larger — find the box dimensions on the retailer's spec sheet or the carton label.
Why screen size isn’t enough
The advertised size is the diagonal of the visible screen. From it we can calculate the screen area exactly — a 65-inch 16:9 screen is about 143.9 cm wide and 80.9 cm tall — but the box adds the frame, stand, polystyrene and cardboard. Box sizes differ between brands and models, so we don’t invent them. Use the box dimensions printed on the carton or listed in the retailer’s specification (sometimes called “package” or “shipping” dimensions).
The calculator still uses the screen area as a lower bound: if even the bare screen can’t fit, the boxed TV certainly can’t under this model.
Upright or flat?
Transporting a TV upright in its original box is commonly advised, and many boxes carry “this way up” arrows. Requirements vary by model, so check your manual or the box. The calculator starts with Must stay upright ticked; untick it only if your manufacturer allows the TV to lie flat.
Practical tips
- Large TV boxes are often tall: the boot opening height is frequently the limit, so measure it carefully.
- Upright boxes usually travel lengthways across folded rear seats or across the back seat footwell — make sure the box can’t tip or slide.
- Protect the screen side from pressure; don’t put anything on or against it.
